The very first thing you should learn is to say “Hello” in Nepali. In Nepali, you can say “Namaste” for “Hello”. When you say “Namaste” to Nepali, then he will be very happy and will be eager to communicate with you. Nepali are by nature very polite and good listeners.

After saying hello you might be interested to ask “How are you ?”

English : How are you ?
Nepali :  ” Ke chha timro halkhabar ? “  Or you can say
“ Timilai aja kasto cha ?” For friends or juniors

Tip : Let us analyze the sentence. The grammar of Nepali is little bit different than the grammar in English. Here “halkhabar” means your health , may be mood etc. On the second sentence “Timilai aja kasto cha ?” may refer to “How are you today? ” as well.  The direct meaning of today is “aja”.

For elders or respected people
” Ke cha tapaiko/ hajurko halkhabar ? ”
“Tapailai / Hajurlai aja kasto cha ? ”

Tip : The only thing you can see different is “timi” is changed to “hajur” or “tapai”.

Now once you can say “Hello” and “How are you ? ” I think you would definitely want to learn how to answer that as well.

English : I am fine
Nepali :  Ma sanchai chu.  ( Ma = “I “, sanchai = “fine”, chu = “am”)

Let me introduce the Nepalese Language in simple way. I will list various nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives and finally present some conversations in Nepali. Conversations include health, transportation, shopping and bargaining, directions, porters etc.

For possessives, add – “ko” to the pronoun, name, or noun :

Ram’s daughter        Ramko chori
Wheat flour             gauko pitho
Whose book ?          Kasko kitaab ?

In Nepali language, in most of the places verb is used at the last. You may feel little weird because in English language, there is a simple strucutre of Sentence like

Subject + verb + compliment / object
